It is something small and simple and most people ignore the details that are on it. I would select something small to start, so that the first works are not so large that they take too long to complete, but select something that you know you can find lots of hidden details. That said, most people consider hyper realistic as the art type where the drawing/painting is larger than the real life one and has more details thatn what could have been perceived in a normal photography, details that most people do not perceive usually when looking at those things. I always say the only rule with no exceptions in drawing is never eat a greasy sandwich while drawing at same time. Well art is not engineering so there is no one way to do things. I’m better at cats … this is a closeup of one of my cat drawings … Each image represents around 10 hours of work. I’m not sure if you’d call me a hyper realist or not, but here’s a couple samples of my work. Doing drawings this way takes me around 120 hours or more to complete something around an 11×15″ drawing. I should also mention that I only draw on weekends so I put my incomplete drawing as wallpaper on my computer so I look at it at great length during the week – this way i can carefully look for errors and be sure I fix things I see at my next sitting. Now I do not recommend my way because it is VERY slow and can lead to terrible mistakes until one is very familiar with it and very accurate. Lastly I will add details as needed/desired and finally be sure all values are blended properly. With each session I will go over everything I’ve drawn to that point and make adjustments so that I have a very accurate drawing by the time I’m finished. I will work on a small area and take it nearly to completion before moving on.

I will start with the left side eye and go outward free hand from there. I can’t speak for others, but I work a bit unusually.
